Ligue Tunisienne des Droits de l’Homme

Tunisian League for the Defence of Human Rights

The Tunisian Human Rights League, known as Ligue Tunisienne pour la Défense des Droits de l’Homme (LTDH) in French, is a prominent non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights in Tunisia.

It is one of the oldest human rights organizations in the country and has played a significant role in advocating for human rights and democracy. Throughout its history, the Tunisian Human Rights League has been actively involved in monitoring and documenting human rights abuses, providing legal assistance to victims, conducting investigations, and advocating for legal and institutional reforms. It has also been instrumental in raising awareness about human rights issues among the Tunisian population and fostering a culture of human rights.

Following the revolution in 2011, the Tunisian Human Rights League continued its work in monitoring and documenting human rights violations, supporting victims, and advocating for democratic reforms.

It has been particularly active in areas such as freedom of expression, the rights of marginalized communities, gender equality, and the abolition of torture.

The league has received international recognition for its efforts, including the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet—a coalition of organizations that included the Tunisian Human Rights League—for their contributions to building a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia.
