Unitat Contra el Feixisme i el Racisme

Unity Against Fascism and Racism, Catalonia
Unitat Contra el Feixisme i el Racisme (UCFR) in Catalunya was formed in 2010, with the main initial task of stopping the Le Pen type party, Plataforma per Catalunya (PxC) that was then growing fast. From 2011 onwards, PxC started losing votes and went into crisis. In 2015 they lost almost all their seats on municipal councils. They just decided to dissolve.
UCFR also works against racism in general, especially since 2015. We have done a lot of campaigning against Islamophobia, and we are currently preparing the 4th edition of our successful annual Social Forum Against Islamophobia and all Forms of Racism.
UCFR is a network made up of more than 650 organisations: neighbours’ associations, the trade unions, migrant groups, Muslim associations, youth and student movements, political parties, cultural groups… It is organised in around 20 local groups in different parts of Catalonia.
On the other hand, the entry of the far-right party VOX into the Andalusian parliament last December was a shock for people across the Spanish state. They threaten to bring together and strengthen the whole of the far right.
So here the international day of protests around the UN antiracism day will be strongly focused on the call to “Stop VOX”.
